Don’t Sleep

There comes a time at night

When we seek the sweet repose

Walking so close to death

Yet living to wake the next day

I don’t want the temptation

For when I do succumb to sleep

A part of me becomes poison

Erupting from the shallows of my mind

And the depth of my soul

Caged away in apoplexy

So I see lives when men tread

The unknown mists of the dreams

Mind eye keeps them calm

But my mind is full of venom

Spilling in my land of life

The only way to contain it?

I dare not close my eyes
