Comfort

Its alright, you’re alright

Soft words in my ear

Am I? I want to shout

In tears, gasping for air

But my chest still relaxes

The thumping slows

Why? I question myself

Your whispers linger

Wrapping me in warmth

I’ve got you

My trembles subside

Sobs drowned to sniffles

Every syllable calming me

Its okay, just breathe

Tears dry on my cheeks

Breaths stop shuddering

But you still hold me close

You’ll be fine

That’s all comfort really is

Lies people tell each other

Hoping they’ll come true
